The spring 2008 SI session schedule is now available!

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program is new to Carroll University and is run through the Library Learning Commons.  For Spring of 2008, SI will be held in conjunction with the following courses: Biology 140, Biology 160, Physics 102B*, Chemistry 101, and Chemistry 102. Session schedules and Leader office hours are now available below.

*Please note that SI will not be offered in PHY102A this semester but tutors are available. Please see the tutor schedule for more information.

Supplemental Instruction is a program of peer-facilitated collaborative learning that was created over 30 years ago at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  SI is offered in historically-difficult courses and has proven successful in colleges and universities around the world.  SI Leaders are students who have taken the course and are hired to take the course again and offer several outside-of-class sessions each week to help supplement the lectures.  SI Leaders attend classes, complete the assigned readings, and take notes as well as hold SI sessions.  They are also trained in study skills and learning styles in order to help students apply these methods while mastering course content.

SI Leaders also hold weekly office hours in the Library Learning Commons workroom, room 018, on the lower level of the library.  During office hours, students enrolled in SI courses may stop by in order to meet with their section's leader if they have questions or concerns.  See the schedule below for SI Leader office hours.

SI sessions are free, voluntary, and open to any student enrolled in the above courses.  All sessions are held in the Learning Commons housed on the lower level of the library.  During sessions SI Leaders will guide students to a deeper understanding of course materials with vocabulary exercises, diagrams, handouts, games, and discussion.  No prior registration is necessary.

If you like the idea of improving your grades by studying with your friends, then try SI!

Please contact the SI Supervisor, Karla Strand at 262.951.3022 or kstrand@cc.edu, with any questions.
