Reserve Information for Students What is "Reserve?" Each semester the library maintains a collection of "Reserve" materials for student use. Reserve items are materials (readings, recordings, computer files, etc.), assigned by a professor, that can be accessed from the library for a limited time. Reserves can come in two forms: traditional reserve or electronic reserve. Traditional
Reserve Reserve Fines Items placed on traditional or paper reserve for a class must remain readily available to all members of the class. Therefore, the fines for not returning reserve materials on time are extremely hefty. Be aware that the fine for not returning reserve materials on time is 50 cents/ hour! Please keep in mind that we "round up!" Our computer system tracks the exact time and date of checkout for each reserve item and begins to calculate fines one minute after your due date and time. Therefore, if you are ten minutes late in returning your materials, you will still be subject to a 50 cent fine. To avoid fines on reserve items, please be sure to return materials a few minutes before the precise time that it is due. If you have any questions on reserve materials/fines, please ask at the circulation desk. Renewing Reserves You may renew reserve materials once if the renewal is made in person at the circulation desk and no one else is waiting for the item. The library cannot renew reserve materials over the phone. Electronic Reserves Many, although not all, reserve items can be accessed electronically via the library's online catalog. Users may access electronic reserves from any computer that is connected to the World Wide Web. Access to electronic reserve is restricted to Carroll University students, faculty and staff and is verified by name and ID number. For access to Electronic Reserves, click here. Search for your class or instructor's name, then type in your name (as it appears on your student or staff ID) and ID number in the security boxes on the Carroll University Library Patron Verification page and you will be granted access through our server. Call the Reference Desk [(262) 650-4892] if you have questions or problems with access. Electronic Reserve articles are available in PDF format. Adobe Acrobat Reader, or other PDF viewing software is required to open PDF documents. You may download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Adobe web page available at http://www.adobe.com One copy of each item placed on electronic reserve is available in paper format at the circulation desk for those students who prefer to read the article in the library or wish to make a photocopy of the article. |
