Library Liaison Program The Library’s Liaison Program was established to improve library services for students by communicating and collaborating with faculty. Library Liaison assignments include the following: 1. Communication with teaching faculty 1.1 Make regular contact with faculty in assigned programs 1.2 Inform the program's faculty and students of relevant new library policies and procedures. 1.3 Inform the program's faculty and students of new library resources and services. 1.4 Work with faculty on course-integrated instruction development. 1.5 Support collaborative programs between the library and the academic disciplines. 1.6 Advocate for programs so that their interests are taken into account as decisions are made by the library. 1.7 Advocate for the library so that its resources, services, and needs are represented to the program. 2. Collection development 2.1 Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of current course syllabi for each assigned program. 2.2 Evaluate and select appropriate materials in the key subject areas of the program. 2.3 Monitor new electronic resources and, with faculty input, recommend appropriate electronic resources to support the program. 2.4 Compile core subject-related Internet resources for the program. 2.5 Encourage ongoing faculty input regarding new items for the collection regardless of format. 2.6 Notify faculty regularly of new library materials purchased for their program. 2.7 Prepare Library Needs Assessments for new courses and new majors. 2.8 Work to meet the information needs of students in each program through effective collection management. 2.9 For assigned programs, maintain knowledge of the relevant professional organizations and their resources for students. 3. Information Literacy 3.1 Work toward building information literacy into each assigned program by collaborating with faculty to design course integrated assignments that involve the use of information resources 3.2 Develop educational sessions and faculty development sessions that will promote information literacy and the use of new techniques and technologies for accessing information. 3.3 Develop general and subject specific guides to library resources that reflect current research strategies and information formats. 4. Liaison development 4.1 Liaisons will share ideas to enhance the liaison program. 4.2 Liaisons will develop subject knowledge in the disciplines that make up their assigned programs. 4.3 Liaisons will participate in professional training to enhance skills as liaisons. updated May 2006 |
